Multi-Region Infrastructure

Infrastructure deployed across multiple geographic regions, so an application can serve users with lower latency, meet data residency requirements, and stay available even if one region experiences an outage.


Why It Matters

An application running from a single region serves distant users slower and goes fully offline if that one region has an outage. Multi-region infrastructure — designed in from the start rather than retrofitted — is what lets a business expand into a new geography without rebuilding its core infrastructure for that market.

Is multi-region infrastructure only about performance?

Performance (latency) is one driver, but data residency requirements — some jurisdictions require certain data to stay within their borders — and disaster recovery (staying available if one region fails) are equally common reasons.

Does this need to be planned from day one, or can it be added later?

It can be added later, but retrofitting multi-region support onto an architecture that assumed a single region from the start is significantly more work than designing for it upfront — which is why we treat it as an architectural decision made early, not a late-stage feature.
